When Brentwood Cathedral needed a proper extension in the late 1980s, most contemporary architects would have reached for glass, concrete or some interpretation of modernism, and Quinlan Terry did the opposite entirely, designing a genuinely classical rotunda modelled on Renaissance and Baroque precedent, a building that looks two hundred years older than it actually is by deliberate choice rather than accident. It’s a rare instance of a modern religious building rejecting its own era outright. The town’s own name works on a similarly literal register: Brentwood means burnt wood, a settlement that grew out of a forest clearing made by fire centuries before anyone thought to build a cathedral there at all. A chauffeur service Brentwood relies on works with both versions of the town, the one that looks backward on purpose and the one whose name simply describes what happened to the trees.
From the Mercedes S-Class for everyday journeys to the Rolls-Royce Phantom for special occasions. Full pricing for every vehicle is below.
Brentwood sits close enough to both Stansted and the M25 that it works well as a base for airport connections and London commuting alike. That dual convenience, alongside a genuinely walkable town centre, makes Brentwood bookings some of the more straightforward we handle in Essex.
Brentwood genuinely combines a walkable historic centre with modern rail connectivity, including the Elizabeth line at neighbouring Shenfield. Our Chauffeur Service Brentwood treat each address individually rather than assuming one approach fits the whole CM14 postcode, part of the wider coverage detailed on our Essex chauffeur page.

Quinlan Terry built his entire career on a genuine conviction that classical architecture wasn’t simply a historical style to be revived occasionally but the correct way to build, full stop, and Brentwood’s cathedral extension gave him a rare chance to prove the point on a significant public building rather than a private commission. The result, a domed rotunda with proper classical proportions and detailing, sits directly against the cathedral’s older, plainer body, deliberately visible as a different era’s addition rather than disguised to blend in. Current visiting information is published directly by Brentwood Cathedral.
The town’s name predates any of this by many centuries and needs no architect to explain it: land was cleared by burning to create the original settlement, and Brentwood, burnt wood, simply describes what was left afterward.
