Mayfair Auction Transfers

Sotheby's & Christie's Chauffeur

The two houses that have shaped the art market for nearly three centuries sit less than a mile apart, close enough to view a Sotheby’s evening sale and a Christie’s viewing the same afternoon. A Sotheby’s & Christie’s chauffeur moves between both without the wait for a taxi outside either.

Our Sotheby's & Christie's Chauffeur Fleet

A visit to Sotheby’s or Christie’s calls for a car as considered as the collection itself. Our Mercedes S-Class is the most popular choice for individual auction house transfers, while the Mercedes V-Class offers additional space for smaller won lots and catalogues.

A Zoo, a Bookseller, and Two Centuries of Rivalry

Both houses began selling books, not paintings, and neither started anywhere near their current address.

Sotheby's First Sale Was at a Zoo

On 11 March 1744, bookseller Samuel Baker auctioned several hundred volumes from a deceased politician’s library at the Exeter Exchange on the Strand, a building that later housed a menagerie. Sotheby’s didn’t move to its current New Bond Street address until 1917, well over a century and a half later.

Christie's Sold to Catherine the Great

James Christie held his first sale in Pall Mall on 5 December 1766, and within twelve years had brokered the sale of Robert Walpole’s art collection to Catherine the Great of Russia. Christie’s moved to its present King Street, St James’s address in 1823.

Why Choose A Sotheby's & Christie's Chauffeur Service

Sale days and previews rarely follow a simple schedule, with viewing rooms, private views and bidding all running on their own timing. Choosing a dedicated Sotheby’s and Christie’s chauffeur service means your arrival and return are built around the auction house’s own programme, not a fixed taxi booking.

Avoid Mayfair & St James's Traffic and the Congestion Charge Zone

New Bond Street and King Street both sit inside the Transport for London Congestion Charge zone, and self-driving collectors often face slow traffic and scarce parking near either auction house. Our Sotheby’s and Christie’s chauffeur service handles the charge, the route and the parking, so you arrive relaxed rather than rushed.

Discreet, Punctual Sale-Day Arrivals

A quiet, professional chauffeur suits the tone of a sale day or private view far better than a rideshare pickup point. Your chauffeur arrives with the correct timing for your appointment, and waits without drawing attention.

How Our Sotheby's & Christie's Chauffeur Works

We have refined our logistics so that a viewing, preview or sale-day trip runs on your schedule, not a taxi rank’s.

Punctual Pickup for Viewings & Sale Days

Your chauffeur collects you from home, office or hotel with enough time to arrive exactly for your appointment or the start of a sale.

Wait-and-Return During Previews

Book your chauffeur to wait nearby during a viewing or preview, or call for a return pickup once you are ready. Either way, your car is back within minutes.

Secure, Discreet Drop-off

Your chauffeur delivers you directly to the auction house entrance and drives you home or on to your next appointment without detours.

Planning a Sale-Day Visit

A few practical points beyond the auction room itself.

Evening Sales Run Late

Major evening sales can run well past their scheduled end; your chauffeur’s waiting time is agreed flexibly rather than to a fixed hour.

Onward Dining

St James’s and Mayfair sit close to our fine dining chauffeur destinations for dinner after a sale.

Discretion for High-Value Purchases

Our chauffeurs do not discuss what a client has bought or bid on, whatever the value involved.

Fixed Prices, Agreed in Advance

Every booking, including flexible waiting time, is quoted at a fixed price before the day.

Beyond the Sale Room: Mayfair & St James's Transfers

Our Sotheby’s & Christie’s chauffeur service extends naturally around both auction houses, and connects easily with a stay at one of Mayfair’s leading hotels.

Sotheby's, New Bond Street

Sotheby's sits on New Bond Street, minutes from the flagship stores we already cover on our Bond Street page.

Christie's, King Street

Christie's sits on King Street, in the same St James's district as our Burlington Arcade page.

Mayfair Hotel Transfers

Staying nearby? We provide dedicated chauffeur service for Claridge's and The Connaught, both a short walk from either auction house.

Pre-Sale Viewing Appointments

Many collectors book a private viewing ahead of a sale. We coordinate pickup and drop-off directly around your appointment time.

Sotheby's & Christie's Chauffeur Drop-off & Pickup Points

Both auction houses sit in busy Mayfair and St James's streets, so we plan the most direct drop-off for your specific appointment.

Sotheby's, New Bond Street

The primary drop-off for Sotheby’s sits directly on New Bond Street, at the auction house’s main entrance.

Christie's, King Street

The primary drop-off for Christie’s sits on King Street, in the heart of St James’s.

Duke Street & St James's Galleries

Duke Street and the surrounding St James’s galleries sit minutes from Christie’s, useful for a wider gallery visit on the same trip.

Mount Street Galleries

Mount Street’s art galleries sit close to Sotheby’s, a short walk for collectors combining several appointments.
